Melbourne school makes shorts and pants mandatory to encourage girls to exercise :

Summery:

Melbourne primary school is one of the first in state to ditched school uniform dresses and skirt. Girls felt self-conscious by dresses and skirt. There was strong support from girls and parents behind the move. It was important for physical activity beneficial for body and mind. It was important for school to balance the issues with freedom of choice. The other states such as Victoria, after that, Queensland, NSW, and WA also following this move.

In my opinion, this move is good for girls that who want to have a physical activity and also they can be comfortable during the exercise.
